The South African Ocean

This hand-embroidered piece invites touch, sound, and light to evoke a multi sensory experience. Created entirely from repurposed scrap materials, it layers braille, textures, and gentle audio to offer a multi-sensory experience that celebrates sustainability and the sea’s shifting energy.

“A full sensory experience” - Claire

This video shows the canvas at its full potential — particularly the sound and texture.

The colour of the sea is made up of French knots, which are bubble-like in shape. Bobbin pom-poms form the jellyfish's tail, sparse enough to let the aquarium tones shine through. The coral's structure is built using clear hot glue, which adds a solid, hard texture.

The response from people exploring the piece has been heartwarming — from 'that's a perfect nightlight' to 'I would buy that.
